The story

What the institution looked like

Cooperatives operating in artisanal mining communities with no formal governance structure, no route to finance and no legal standing. The standard models had been tried and had not fitted.

01

What I did

Cooperative governance work and support for the formalisation of artisanal mining enterprises, designing structures around how those communities actually organise rather than around a template from another sector.

02

What changed

Formalisation pathways for artisanal mining enterprises, with governance designed for their reality, giving them a route to finance and a legal identity.

How it was done

4 moves, in order

None of it was clever. It was sequenced, written down, and reported on monthly.

01

Studied how the mining communities already organise their money and their work.

02

Designed the governance model around that reality rather than importing a template.

03

Supported the formalisation of the enterprises, step by step.

04

Created a route to finance and to legal standing that the members could hold themselves.

The lesson

Formalisation fails when the governance model is copied from a different sector. It works when it is built from how the members already work together.
